Bamboo
Bamboo guzzles greenhouse gases!
- Bamboo stands can release 35% more oxygen than equivalent stands of trees
- An acre of bamboo can sequester 25 tons of CO2 per year, compared to only 6 tons from a young forest
Bamboo Facts
Bamboo is a grass, but with a woody stalk. There are over 1250 species of bamboo growing from sea level to 13,500 feet, with varieties found on every continent but the frozen poles. Bamboo has become a hot "green" commodity used in everything from fiber to flooring to fabric. However, few understand its unmatched abilities to sequester CO2 to help fight climate change.
Plant A Boo
Plant A Boo is a campaign to inform, educate and demonstrate how bamboo can address the environmental impacts of global climate change. Plant a Boo provides a platform for businesses, organizations, foundations and governments to promote the environmental benefits of growing bamboo.
